About WUCT

Westlake United Church Trust (WUCT) is a non-profit organisation, established in February 2002, by various churches in Cape Town. We are assisting the residents of Westlake Village who were previously living in shacks and have now been rehoused in low-cost government housing, to improve their quality of life and to become a self-sustaining, thriving community.

WUCT has renovated the Commando Hall for use as a Community Centre and is running a registered pre-school called Emmanuel Educare Centre for 180 children aged 3-6 years. We also run a Community Advice Office and a crafts center, where crafts such as beadwork and sewing is taught. As well as a Second Hand Shop.

There are 3 registered Professional Nurses (PN’s) who are also known as Outreach Team Leaders (OTL), 24 Community Healthcare workers (CHW’s), who visit and take care of sick people in their homes in Westlake, as well as the surrounding areas.  They also facilitate an HIV support group, and 5 chronic disease support groups for people with conditions such as diabetes and hypertension.

The Board of Trustees for the WUCT include:

      • Harold Stemmet (Chair)
      • Chris Heilberg
      • David Walsh
      • Di Forrester
      • Ann Albrecht
      • Fundisele Mbesi
